The biggest lies you’ve been told about European cars

Jumping into the driver’s seat of a European automobile such as an Audi or BMW can often bring an unprecedented sense of happiness and comfort.

As you caress the luxurious leather interior, your mind wanders to the long open road drives, whilst you appreciate the scenery like you have never done before.

The new-car aroma gives you an overwhelming inner sensation that transports you into a world of pure satisfaction.

And then BANG! Suddenly, reality strikes and the financial fear kicks in and whispers in your ear, urging you to walk away from the showroom and get back into your old clunker.

But it doesn’t have to be that way…

There are many common misconceptions and rumours that are going around about owning and servicing luxurious European cars. While different cars and SUVs will require specialists to handle the vehicles, that doesn’t mean it will drain your bank to keep them well maintained.

We’ve debunked some of the most common delusions many people have about owning European cars.

Servicing and maintaining a European car can cost an arm and a leg!

One of the most common misconceptions people have is that these type of luxury cars are expensive to service and maintain as they require attention from specialists.

European cars are well designed and don’t need any more service than a domestic vehicle would. Yes, it is true that if you want genuine replacement parts it can be quite expensive, as they have to be ordered from overseas. However, the general servicing is just like any other car, so long as you stay up to date with your scheduled maintenance

European cars can only be taken to the dealer for a service.

Wrong. Just because you purchased a BMW from a dealer doesn’t mean you have to get your car serviced from there. You can find many independent BMW specialists that offer experienced professional service, without the dealer price tag.

Many dealerships will try to convince you otherwise and try to persuade you to pay the sky-high servicing costs, but don’t buy into that.

Any mechanic can work on your European car

Providing the correct service for these machines is vital, as the right tools and people are needed that have the knowledge and experience in handling European cars. Many mechanics will claim they can work on these type of cars, however, they will only charge by the hour and ‘try’ to figure out the best way to conduct a repair.

Always take your car to a specialist to ensure your pride and joy is in the best hands and will prolong the longevity of your car.

Owning a BMW, Mercedes, Landrover or any other European car can be a great driving experience but it doesn’t have to be a strain on your pocket!
